Icons made to shine
Super Mario has plenty of shapes that seem made for lamps. The Question Block is square and instantly recognisable. Super Star works as a clean icon. Piranha Plant and the mushroom make the character itself the shape of the lamp.
Boo takes a softer approach with a squishy model, while Retro Power Ups brings several familiar symbols together in one lamp. That makes the shape just as important as how much light the product gives off.
Projectors, neon and lamps with sound
A projector puts the design on a wall or ceiling instead of making the lamp itself the main event. Neon gives it a sharper graphic look. Lamps with sound add another gaming reference beyond the light.
Icon Light and the smaller character models work better when the lamp is meant to be a detail on a desk or shelf. Larger models and neon draw more attention and become a more noticeable part of the room.
Mario lamps can do different jobs
Some are chosen for their shape first. Others for the lighting effect. The projector is more about the surface around the lamp, while a Piranha Plant or Question Block looks first and foremost like a familiar object from the game.
